This lesson introduces learners to the importance of taking calculated risks for a reward. Example or weighing the upsides vs downsides before coming to a decision to take a risk. An activity which gets students to think about situations in their own life for example, revising vs going out to see friends - students then weigh up the pros and cons (analysis) and finally make a judgement with a depends (evaluation) on whether the risk is worth it. Sometimes risk leads to failure, (not part of the spec but is good for students to know) and in business we must learn to bounce back from failure, so some anecdotes to help understand this. This three lesson bundle covers 4.1.1 Growing economies area of the specification. We start by looking at what an economy is and how it is measured. Then we move on to looking at examples of emerging economies such as the BRICs and MINTs. In the second lesson we look at a case study on Lucozade attempting to challenge Coca-Cola in the USA, students then attempt a question on this, with guidance on how to achieve marks for knowledge, application, analysis and evaluation. This 3 lesson bundle introduces learners to what the economy is made up of by discussing GDP and strong/weak economies around the world for a good foundation. We look at the business cycle and break down what happens at each stage, students have plenty of assessment opportunities to consolidate this knowledge. This lesson introduces learners to what a stakeholder is, we discuss examples of stakeholders, students consider the stakehodlers of their school, we then go on to look at the different interests of the stakeholders. Some consolidation activties such as matching stakeholders to definitions or a more challenging version included. This lesson introduces learners to what factors start ups might consider when choosing a location to start up, we then look at key factors that determine the location such as proximity to customers, labour, transport and more. A 3 mark question with a model answer to peer assess. Finally an engaging group activity where a case study is given and some financial data about different locations, students then work together to calculate and discuss which location is the best to start up. Whole class discussion on the ultimate location. Students can write down their conclusions. For each production method we look at real life examples such as a wedding dress for job production. We then go on to look at cell production, productivity and efficiency, each with their formulas.
